Slick Rick still has immigration issues

Despite pardon from NY governor, rapper’s woes continue.

*Slick Rick’s past criminal convictions may have been pardoned by New York’s Governor David Paterson earlier this year, but the rapper says he’s still running into red tape with U.S. immigration authorities.

“We’re in a better position that we was before,” said the recent recipient of a VH1 Hip Hop Honor. “We have a couple of hurdles that we have to go through, just clarifying everything with the immigration people. Other than that we’re just on standby to see what the board does from this point forward.”

The rap icon, born Ricky Walters, has been jailed in the U.S twice - once in 1991 for attempted murder and assault , and again in 2002 over immigration issues. He was released from jail in 2003 after spending 18 months in detention, and Gov. Paterson officially pardoned the star for his crime in May.

What was the song Slick Rick used as the intro at the Vh1 Hip Hop Honors?

It’s actually teenage love however instead of using the actual music for teenage love-rick mixed impeach the president beat along with diana ross singing “do ya know”-which is actually what rick sings in the original teenage love! The song “do ya know” is from the movie “mahogany”-which starred diana ross.

Hi everyone,

I need some help with a banner for the site. The banner right now is the one from the VH1 honors and I will be taking it down by the end of the week. Before I didnt have a banner up but I do like the way it looks.

I am not a graphic designer so I am reaching out to the slick rick fans. I need to banners one for this site and one for myspace that mentions that it is the Official myspace page.

VH1 has announced the five honorees for their fifth annual “VH1 Hip Hop Honors,” Cypress Hill, De La Soul, Slick Rick, Naughty By Nature and Too $hort. Hosted once again by Tracy Morgan, this year’s musical celebration will give viewers a chance to step back and reminisce on a time when hip hop music began to make its greatest impact on American pop culture.

Premiering on Tuesday, October 7 at 10PM*, generations of hip hop will bridge the gap for one exceptional night to set it off with the original style and flavor that sparked a revolution and continues to fuel an evolution around the world. Additional performances and appearances will be announced shortly.

Introducing this year’s honorees:

Cypress Hill: With a driving rhyme style and brutally infectious production, this L.A. based collective brought a welcomed Latino perspective to hip hop storytelling, creating records like “Insane in the Brain” that crossed all barriers and gave Cypress Hill fans in the rock, as well as, rap world.

De La Soul: This Long Island trio brought a playful, smart, and off-center style to hip hop, while pushing their suburban and bohemian sensibility to the fore. Their innovative sound has influenced not only other MCs, but helped inspire the entire underground movement in the culture.

Naughty By Nature: Led by the strident style of lead MC Treach, Naughty By Nature brought New Jersey hip hop into the mainstream by creating hit singles that became anthems for a generation. “OPP” and “Hip Hop Hooray” are two of the most popular records in rap history.

Slick Rick: With vivid storytelling and unique rhyme style Slick Rick has always been one of the most unique and influential figures in the culture’s history. When you combine Rick’s MC gifts with his gold chains, eye patch and regal clothing the result is a figure who embodies the fun, the danger and the flavor that is hip hop.
