    Hello Mr. Slick Rick

I just want you to know that you also have fans all the way from Denmark!

I love your music and the messages you send. Compared to all the new “so called” Hiphop groups/rappers you actully had and have a great message in your lyrics.
    Thanks for everything -
    Henrik JøJ – Denmark

I’ve been Slick Rick’s biggest fan since 1988 but I was still a huge fan when the show came out in 1985. i
    I have all his l
LPs, even The Art of Storytelling studio cd with songs that didnt make the album. A bunch of his unreleased work, his guest apperances. I bought Brooklyn Babylon cause he was in it. He killed it in Brown Sugar as well. He has the biggest influence in hip hop and it would take too much time to list them all. But Biggie, Eminem, Erick Sermon, Cru, Dela Soul, Das Efx, Jay-Z as many more have used something from Rick. Quenn Latifah’s Just Another Day sampled him. Color Me Badd used him, Montell Jordan, Al B. Sure and the list goes on. I love r
Rick’s word play, delivery and his smooth voice. My favorite songs are Hey Young World & Who Rotten Em & Bond! Rick is the Ruler. If anyone needs to drop another LP its Rick. Love You Rick the Ruler!!!!!

Just wanted to wish you and your family all the best in the future, and may you continue to record music that you love and that the fans will most certainly love too. God Bless you everyday, Mr. Walters.

This is in response to how hip-hop has affected my life.

I discovered hip-hop late (in my twenties). Hip-hop was not immediately available to me growing up and was not considered part of my “culture”. I discovered it on my own much later and became fascinated with it because the use of language by some legendary hip hop artists–Slick Rick among them–in my mind is comparable to the genius of Shakespeare. Shakespeare is considered a master of language because he could bend and invent words, using them in novel ways to express subtleties. I feel similarly about hip-hop; the use of language is so masterful that often multiple events happening in a single moment in time are described flawlessly with a single phrase, managing to bypass the fact that language is limited by linearity. Ingenious!

I wasn’trn into a family of hip hop listeners, or the enviroment that hip hop could reach me, and for the longest time I thought hip hop was all what i heard on the radio. It’s a shame that these radio stations like Hot 97 only play mainstream hip hop (Lil Wayne, t-pain, etc with the auto tuning down fall of hip hop) . So i heard Childrens Story in a Wawa parking lot and i asked the guy who it was, Slick Rick The ruler he told me.I did some research, and some illegal downloads (sorry) and i 100% love what you write, the song Auditorium is nothing but a tease, you need to get back into the game and show the world what real hip hop is again. one love

    “How has hip-hop moved you???”

Hip-hop moved me to the core, a few weeks ago when a friend (who’s a DJ) told me he bought (for quite a stack of dead presidents since it was an original print from back then) the vynil single for Doug E Fresh and the Get Fresh Crew’s ‘The show/Ladee da dee” and of course everybody heard Ricky’s world famous story that was imitated and copyed…But it was such a shock for me to hold that vynil I was speachless… I thought about its story, the parties it must’ve set off, the movement of the crowd, and the hype during the years that followed the birth of the HIP-HOP CULTURE. The most intense moment was when my friend actually set the disc on hte wheels and for the first time I paid attention to the saphire hitting the groove the faint static it makes right before the track starts…
I’m not that old, I was born in 1987 so didn’t live the birth of hip-hop but it seems like it has allways been a part of me.

Thank you Grand Wizard MC for beeing one of the ambassadors of hip-hop to the world.

    Thank you.

  25. Tobin on July 7th, 2009 8:22 pm

One of the greatest of all time, hands down, period.

Great Adventures is a classic. no one can say they are a self-proclaimed hip-hop head if they are not familiar with this album. His whole style, the arrogant, my shit is better than your shit, paved the way for artists like Jay-z, Biggie and Big L.

Art of Storytelling is one of the top ten albums of the last 10 years. Very underrated album: songs like Frozen, me and Nas, Run America and Street Talking are some of the best tracks of the 90’s.

Ricky D! you gotta drop another album man, your shit is the truth…I know your next work will be something that will also go down in the history books! Huge fan man, keep it up!

  26. Nikki on June 29th, 2009 2:36 pm

There isn’t many Hip Hop artist that are changing the game in a creative mind set anymore. Recently all I have seen is these one liners and a dance (gimic) that has flooded the industry. Ricky is one of the few that has that touch to change and influence the industry with his lyrics and beats. This is why I want to propose Ricky making a new album. It is very apparent he is still on point after his most recent feature in Mos new album (which is also heat). Come on Ricky, bring something new and hot to the world! We’ve been waiting patiently!

  38. Spank on November 13th, 2008 12:18 pm

Slick , I’ve been a fan since the start. I used to run through Harlem when you got in trouble. The Jetta days lol…but I have to say Hip Hop isn’t the same without the old skool. I hope it comes back and your their when it starts to emerge. I’m in the south now and saw you in ATL. Rick you and Dougie did your thing and it was worth every penny. While you two were performing I thought …wow!!! the respect you both give eachother. Not like these new reality show singers who get big headed. You two have been boys from the early days.

    Peace,

I am a long time fan if Slick Rick. “Teenage Love” is on the soundtrack to my teenage years. Old School Rap was the best. Slick Rick is the hottest and most talented mc… he is an Icon.
